Preachers' Pool of Verses
For fifty years I have been collecting and reading what others have written in the last 200 years about prayer and the proclamation of the Gospel. I
found there is an 80-90% overlap of verses common to all of them. They quote the Old Testament prophets, Jesus, and the apostles. (Jesus and the apostles quoted the Old Testament prophets. Jesus quoted Deuteronomy the most.
With the help of my wife, Barbara, we extracted all the Bible references from several outstanding writers and pooled them from Genesis to Revelation. This collection contains about 400 verses on 28 pages. You will find them at the bottom of this page in PDF form. Click on the red Adobe symbol to open the file. Next, are the same verses in an open Scribd. document. More verses may be added over time. Please feel free to pass them along to others.
Some of my favorite writers are: E. M. Bounds, M.R. DeHaan, Theodore Epp, Paul Ferguson, Charles Finney, Rosalyn Goforth, Madame Guyon, H. A. Ironside, Kent Kelly, Herbert Lockyer, McClure, Malla Moe, D.L.Moody, Henry Morris, Andrew Murray, MacNeil, A. T. Pierson, A.W. Pink, John R. Rice, Lee Roberson, Robert Sumner, Charles H. Spurgeon, Stanford, Lehman Strauss, J. Hudson Taylor, Robert Taylor, Cam Thompson, R.A. Torrey, and Warren Wiersbe.
The first list is in PDF format. It works well in most computer programs. You will need the Adobe Reader to access PDF. (http://get.adobe.com/reader/) To open the verse file, click on the red Adobe emblem.
The same list of verses is in the Scribd. format already open. At the bottom-right of the Scribd. page, click on the icon to go to a full-screen, large print.
Each of the above formats is in one document and is indexed Genesis-Revelation, 28 pages. The verses are in page form (not cards) and the outside margins are set at 1/2 inch to conserve space. Most printers have a "fit to page" option on the drop-down menu. You may have to search for that feature on your computer. The font is Georgia 11 or 10. You may want to set your printer on "draft copy" to use less ink. The list will be updated periodically and the editing date will appear at the top and bottom of the document. You can copy and paste individual verses from the files, but it may not hold its format. You may have to reformat it. Try highlighting, copying and pasting a verse to see if it will work in your program. Your computer program may feature several formats from which to choose. If so, use "save as" feature to convert all 28 pages and then work from that copy to extract individual verses.
