In Six Days…
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. (Exodus 20:11)
Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. (Exodus 31:16-17)
DAVID CARR GAVE ME A COPY OF "IN SIX DAYS" (©2000 by John F. Ashton) several years ago. I read it and loaned it out until it didn’t come home, so I replaced it at Amazon. These fifty scientists, all of them with earned Ph.D. degrees, have some interesting things to say about their journey to embracing a six-day creation as Moses declared it to be in Exodus 20:11 and Exodus 31:16-17. You can find new and used copies at www.AmazonBooks.com
I WANT MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO KNOW WHY I hold to a literal interpretation of the six-day creation. Christians are divided and confused over the origin of our earth. I hope you will study the historic position that has been held by Jewish and Christian tradition for many centuries and base your belief on solid research. Is your faith based upon the Word of God or upon the traditions and words of recent men?
PLEASE GO TO THIS SITE AND WATCH/LISTEN TO THESE TWO PLEASANT GUYS give a very scholarly, easy-to-understand explanation of the six days of creation in Genesis 1 and as it is underscored in Exodus 20:11 and 31:17. https://creation.com/media-center/youtube/how-long-were-the-genesis-days-creation-magazine-live-7-02 And while you’re at it, memorize this short address: www.creation.com .
IF YOU SEARCH GOOGLE EVEN A LITTLE, you will find Jewish Rabbis saying that from the beginning of Jewish life until the present day, Orthodox Jews have believed and taught a literal six-day creation as they interpret Exodus 20:11 and Exodus 31:17 and Genesis 1:1-2. Following in that pattern, mainstream Christianity has believed and taught a literal six-day creation until the appearance of Darwin and the surge of evolution about 1880. Is your moral authority in Scripture or in the traditions and words of men?
SCIENCE CANNOT DETERMINE THE AGE OF THE EARTH. According to the rules of the philosophy of science, there are at least three requirements for an idea to become a “scientific law or a statement of certainty.” 1. It must be observable. 2. It must be repeatable. 3. It must be predictable. Therefore, the age of the earth cannot be determined by science. At best, scientists can express ideas as feasibility statements.
HERE IS A GOOD, SHORT ARTICLE WORTH READING: https://creation.com/six-days-or-billions-of-years Mount St. Helens Eruption and Carbon 14 Dating. “On May 18, 1980, a major volcanic eruption occurred at Mount St. Helens, a volcano located in Skamania County, in the U.S. state of Washington. The eruption was the most significant volcanic eruption to occur in the contiguous 48 U.S. states since the much smaller 1915 eruption of Lassen Peak in California.” Wikipedia
ANSWERS IN GENESIS SAYS THIS ABOUT MOUNT ST. HELENS regarding Carbon 14 Dating, showing that the system of dating rock is unreliable. It’s a little tedious, but necessary to show that their method of testing is within the scope of standard procedure. https://answersingenesis.org/geology/radiometric-dating/radio-dating-in-rubble/#Table1
“BILLIONS OF YEARS" WERE CONCEDED TO THE EVOLUTIONISTS in the Scofield Reference Bible (©1909-revised ©1917) in a footnote under Genesis 1:1: In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
SCOFIELD'S FOOTNOTE READ: “created – But three creative acts of God are recorded in this chapter: 1. heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1) 2. animal life (Genesis 1:21) 3. human life (Genesis 1:27) “The first creative act refers to the dateless past, and gives scope for all the geologic ages.”
●PLEASE NOTE THE LAST SENTENCE ABOVE: “The first creative act refers to the dateless past and gives scope for all the geologic ages.”
BY 1880, DARWIN WAS WELL-ESTABLISHED AND HIS BOOK, ORIGIN OF SPECIES was being applauded with great fanfare. In the wake of this great surge, C.I. Scofield conceded like one who had lost a landslide election and made no effort to counter the popular storm of Darwinian Evolution.
SCOFIELD HAD EIGHT OUTSTANDING MEN ON HIS BOARD OF CONRIBUTING EDITORS, and it is unknown if he inserted his statement with their knowledge and consent or if he simply used their names and inserted the statement by himself. Either way, the statement was an act of needless capitulation. There is a strong consensus by a host of Christians that Scofield’s statement of capitulation was unnecessary and premature. It opened the door for millions of people to be deceived without adequate examination of its faulty premise.
THE SCOFIELD REFERENCE BIBLE. When I was 16, (1950) enthusiastic pastors were saying: “Sell your shoes, if you have to, and get a copy of the Scofield Study Bible.” I was boarding in the home of a Baptist deacon in Stevenson, AL and he enthusiastically showed me his copy of the Scofield Bible.
I WAS IN MY SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL, working at my dad’s sawmill for $36 a week, minus $7.00 a week for board. My tithe was $3.60, and Social Security was about $1.50. So, out of my $23.90 a week, I saved up to buy my very own copy of the Scofield Reference/Study Bible! I believe it was about $14.95 in 1950 for the cheapest artificial leather, black cover. I had never seen such a wonderful, helpful Bible! It contains an excellent collection of interesting and useful Bible notes.
THE TITLE PAGE LISTS EIGHT OUTSTANDING CONSULTING EDITIORS: Henry G. Weston, James M. Gray, W.J. Erdman, A.T. Pierson, W. G. Moorehead, Elmore Harris, A. C. Gaebelein, and William I.Pettingill. "Just what role these consulting editors played in the project has been the subject of some debate. Apparently, Scofield only meant to acknowledge their assistance, though some have speculated that he hoped to gain support for his publication from both sides of the millenarian movement with this device." Ernest Sandeen, The Roots of Fundamentalism: British and American Millenarianism, 1800-1930 (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1970), 224.
MY DELIGHT AND MY DISDAIN WITH THE SCOFIELD BIBLE. It became as much a part of me as my shoes. I read it, studied it and preached from it. And then, one day, after I had worn out two copies, my eyes fell on a sentence under Genesis 1:1 that I had never noticed before. The footnote in its entirety read:
“CREATED - "BUT THREE CREATIVE ACTS OF GOD ARE RECORDED IN THIS CHAPTER: 1. heavens and the earth (Gen_1:1) 2. animal life (Gen_1:21) 3. human life (Gen_1:27) The first creative act refers to the dateless past, and gives scope for all the geologic ages.”
SLOWLY BUT SURELY, IT SUNK IN. IS THAT STATEMENT REALLY IN THE SCOFIELD BIBLE? How did I miss it? It did not fit with Moses and Jesus thought a lot of Moses and quoted him more than any other writer except for the Psalms. My first reaction was: “I must study this some more. I don’t know enough about this.”
I SET THE SCOFIELD BIBLE ASIDE, although I still refer to notes in Scofield occasionally. I have it on my computer. But the Scofield footnote on Genesis 1:1 is not acceptable. There has been an increasing pushback against it among commentators such as John MacArthur, Henry Morris, Warren Wiersbe, The King James Study Bible, Wilmington's Guide to the Bible,
“SIX DAYS" IN THESE TWO VERSES MEANS 24-HOUR DAYS BECAUSE it is preceded by a numerical adjective. “Six” is an adjective that limits its meaning. When preceded by a number, “days” cannot mean “an age of indefinite periods of time.”
● “IN SIX DAYS" IS GOING TO BE IN 2-3 PARTS. The “day-age” doctrine is alien to historical Jewish and Christian orthodoxy and is relatively new.

The recently built Noah’s Ark in Kentucky is significant to the ongoing discussion of a “six-day creation.” It’s builder, Ken Ham, adamantly disagrees with the idea of an old earth and the “day-age” approach to interpreting Genesis.” (I hope to visit the Ark soon!)
