One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established. (Deuteronomy 19:15)
THESE WORDS CAME FROM THE TORAH...the first five books of Moses. That’s how old these words are. They are not Republican words. They are not Democrat words. They are the Words of God that have been held by the Jews for over four thousand years and by Christians for over two thousand years.
THESE WORDS GIVE US THE CONCEPT IN OUR LAW SYSTEM that we are innocent until proven guilty. VERY IMPORTANT! There is no burden on the accused to prove his or her innocence. The burden is on the one who accuses to prove what they say about the defendant. This principle cannot, must not be swept away in the passion of the moment.
I HAVE BEEN INSIDE THE COURT ROOM OF THE U.S. SUPREME COURT in Washington several times. As you open the Oak door to enter the courtroom, the references to the Ten Commandments are inscribed on a brass plate, fully visible.
ON THE INSIDE OF THE COURTROOM ON THE RIGHT WALL, there is a 12-foot stone frieze of Moses holding the Ten Commandments, looking down on the Supreme Court Justices.
The Ten Commandments hang on the wall behind them. See other places where Moses has an influence on our justice system. http://spofga.org/ten_commandments/2005/feb/supreme_court.phtml
IT WAS NOT ENOUGH THAT ONE PERSON ACCUSE ANOTHER of wrong-doing in Moses’ day or in our day in America. If you accuse someone in court, you must present corroborating (confirming) evidence to back it up. You must have witnesses or other evidence to back up what you say.
WE ARE IN A NATIONAL CRISIS NOW OVER THE NOMINATION OF A JUSTICE for our Supreme Court. We listened to and watched Dr. Ford’s testimony of her being sexually abused in high school, 36 years ago. It was very moving, very convincing. I believe the woman has been severely traumatized at some point in her life. No question about that. I feel sorry for her and for her family. Then, I listened to Judge Cavanaugh give his defense in an equally passionate manner, affirming that it was not him. I also feel sorry for him and for his family.
WHEN YOU HAVE PASSIONATE DECLARATIONS IN COURT that conflict with each other, you cannot establish a conviction on the testimony of one person alone. There must be corroborating evidence. There was none in what was presented to the nation by television on Thursday. The Hearing lasted just 15 minutes short of 9 hours. We were gone to the Community Center to help in giving out food in the middle and then returned to hear Judge Cavanaugh and the wrap-up. The testimony of the two people was given under the penalty of felony, with severe penalties for lying.
THE PROSECUTING ATTORNEY WHO WAS HIRED TO QUESTION THE WOMAN, Dr. Ford, stated after the Hearing that had she been there examining her to prosecute Judge Cavanaugh, there was nothing in the testimony of Dr. Ford that could have been taken to court against Judge Cavanaugh, because she gave no corroborating evidence. None.
LET'S KEEP THE DEMOCRAT-REPUBLICAN THING OUT OF IT and be honest before God. We must maintain that in America, a person is innocent until proven guilty and the burden of proof of an accusation is upon the one who does the accusing. One lady who had sued a man for raping her, said, “You can’t go into court with a story. You have to go into court with evidence.”
I WAS MUCH MOVED BY THE TESTIMONY OF THE WOMAN who accused Judge Cavanaugh. But, I must tell you that had it been a courtroom and I had been on the jury, I could not have voted to uphold her accusation. One is innocent until proven guilty under Moses and in America. It has always been that way. It must always remain that way.
WHEN I WAS A SENIOR IN THE STEVENSON HIGH SCHOOL, a pregnant teen-age girl in the junior class accused me of being the father of her child. I was not. She went all over the school telling everyone who would listen. It was only when my father told her father that we were going to take them to court for slander and that the process would probably eat up the price of their house that they quickly decided to give us a notarized affidavit stating that I was not the father of her child. This gives me pause in believing every story put forth by a woman against a man. Sometimes, it’s true. Sometimes it’s a lie.
I REALIZE THAT THOUSANDS OF WOMEN HAVE BEEN ABUSED in community and work places by aggressive males. A man will lie to you. A woman will lie to you. Not all men are liars. Not all women are liars. We must have a way of sorting out the truth. Our court system with its rules is not perfect, but it is the best we have. The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies. (Psalm 58:3)
RIGHT NOW, WE NEED TO DO SOME SERIOUS PRAYING FOR DR. FORD and for Judge Cavanaugh and their families. Our hearts go out to both of these people and their families. And pray for America that God will overrule and give us an honest, competent, God-fearing judge to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court. Ω
