not willing that any should perish

…Not Willing That Any Should Perish
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.  (2Peter 3:8-9)

IN PETER'S DAY, SCOFFERS HAD BEEN RESISTING the idea that Jesus is going to return to earth and that God is going to judge the world by His standard of righteousness. “Where is the promise of His coming?” If Jesus is coming back to set up His kingdom on the Throne of David, when is He coming? Peter answered that God will come in His own good time.

WE DON'T HAVE MUCH TIME, but God has time behind Him and time in front of Him and is in no hurry. One day is with the Lord is like a thousand years to us. And, to the Lord, a thousand years is like one day to us. God is not slack concerning His promise of Jesus’ return to earth and His warning that God is going to judge the earth. His mercy is giving men more time to repent, to change their rebellious mind toward God and abandon their sinful ways.

McGEE COMMENTS:"This is the reason you and I need to get the Word of God out. It is the only thing that can change hearts and lives. It is by the Word of God that folk are born again—as Peter said in his first epistle, "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever" (1Peter 1:23). (McGee)

GOD LOVES YOU AND IS NOT WILLING THAT YOU PERISH. You can hold your umbrella up to keep God’s love from touching you. You may turn your mind away from Jesus dying on the cross to pay for your sins. You may resist the Holy Spirit’s drawing of your spirit toward God. He does not want to have to drag you before Him in judgment and pass sentence on you.

HE WANTS YOU TO PASS FROM DEATH UNTO LIFE and you can do that right now.

You can turn to Him and receive the wonderful salvation He has for you. Just like you are, you can get on your knees and ask God to forgive you of your sins, ask Christ to be your Lord and Savior. Are you willing to do that, right now? I did that one night in October, 1943 and God forgave me of my sins and redeemed me by the blood of the Lamb.

LOOK AT WHAT GOD IS SAYING TO YOU ABOUT BEING SAVED:
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.  (John 3:3)  I said therefore unto you Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.  (John 5:24)… if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.  (John 8:24) For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.  (Romans 10:12-13)

IF YOU WANT TO HEAR THE VOICE OF GOD: …if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.  (Heb 3:15)

(Bible Gateway will read this to you if you like. Look for the speaker icon.) You can navigate from one of these references to any place in the Bible. If you are behind in reading, read the passage for today and then go back.

 Good Memory Verse:
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and
the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.  (Isaiah 53:6) Write verses on scraps of paper and put in your pocket to memorize like President Abraham Lincoln did.)
